Travel in Denmark

By almost whatever you measure it, Denmark is geographically a small country. With a population of million and a land mass of just sq kms, it is evident that you are never far from the next town...or the next person. So, what is it like to travel in Denmark.

Train: Denmark has a superb train service both as far as quality and network is concerned. DSB runs fast, frequent trains linking all the major towns and cities and wherever you are in Denmark you are never far from a railway station. Given the challenges of the Danish language, it is a relief to know that all the staff speak English and that the timetables have English legends. Help is also at hand from an excellent web site www.dsb.dk which is also in English. Another great portal which is in Danish, English and German is www.rejseplanen.dk which has details of both bus and rail networks.

Ferries: If you look at a map of Denmark you will see that you are never far away from water. Accordingly, Denmark has an efficient and cost-effective network of ferry services both domestic and international. Check: www.faerge.dk

Bridges: Well, if you want to get into a discussion with a Dane ask him about two bridges. The Big Belt between Jutland and Fyn and the Øresundsbro which is a new bridge between Denmark-Sweden Copenhagen/Malmö ( http://osb.oeresundsbron.dk gives you all the facts you could ever want) You will hear pros and cons about both the toll charges and even whether the two regions and/or two countries should even be umbilacally linked!

Accommodation: Whether you want a campsite, budget accommodation or a luxury 5* hotel, Denmark can provide you with whatever you require. Although Denmark is not generally regarded as "cheap" by international standards most hotels do offer tremendous value and can normally be booked on the internet through sites such as www.travelreaction.com
